The Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to entertain a petition alleging irregularities in the 70th Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) Preliminary Examination and police atrocities against protesting candidates.

Furthermore, Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor was admitted to the ICU after his health deteriorated during his hunger strike.

Over five lakh candidates had appeared for the Combined Competitive Exams (CCE) held on December 13, 2024. However, the process was marred by allegations of misconduct, prompting hundreds of aspirants to stage a boycott. The protests have since drawn national attention.

The Supreme Court of India has refused to hear the plea demanded a re-examination of the 70th BPSC exam.

As per Law Trend, the petition filed by Anand Legal & Forum Trust accused the state commission of widespread malpractices and sought a cancellation of the examination, along with a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe under the supervision of a retired Supreme Court judge.

The bench acknowledged the grievances raised by the petitioners but directed them to approach the Patna High Court for relief. As per Economic Times, the petitioners also demanded action against district authorities, including the Superintendent of Police (SP) and District Magistrate (DM), for ordering a baton charge against candidates protesting outside Patna’s Bapu Pariksha Parisar during the exam.

Prashant Kishor Admitted In ICU

In a show of solidarity, Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor launched a hunger strike to support the protesting students. However, as he joined the protests, Kishor and his supporters were arrested and sent to jial on Monday.

As the Jan Suraaj leader continued his hunger strike, he was admitted to the ICU on Tuesday due to deterioating health.

Speaking to reporters, doctors said that - "There are certain medical issues that need to be thoroughly examined. He is suffering from infection and dehydration. He is also weak and feeling discomfort." Despite his condition, Kishor stated his "fast unto death will continue".

Kishor’s strike highlights the frustration over the alleged irregularities in the examination process and the administration's response to the candidates' grievances.

The hunger strike, coupled with escalating protests, has intensified pressure on the state government to respond. Students and activists have rallied behind Kishorhola play, urging swift action to investigate the allegations and provide justice to those affected.
